Too often I see people giving themselves a strict deadline by when they want to lose their weight. This is the first problem because it’s almost impossible to know how your body will react to your new lifestyle and most importantly how you’ll feel with this lifestyle change. If somethings not working for you, you can always change that thing, but never give up!
Now, I’ll be the first to admit that when I set out on my weight loss journey I wanted to lose X amount of pounds in 3 months. 3-FREAKING-MONTHS, like those were my last 3 months on earth and I’d spontaneously explode if I didn’t lose that amount of weight within that unreasonable time frame I had set for myself. I also failed to realize that after 3 months I’d have to keep my “diet” up or else I’d gain the weight back. Luckily I grasped this fact pretty quickly before more damage was done. Want to know a secret? You won’t blow up or explode. Instead you’re going to learn the proper tools needed to live a long healthy sustainable life and lifestyle because you would have taken the time to learn what works and doesn’t work for you. I’m all about setting short term goals for yourself in order to achieve your ultimate goal BUT I don’t think that a certain number of pounds in a certain amount of time should matter that much in the long run. After all you have a life to live and enjoy and weight loss shouldn’t hinder that for you. If lack of motivation keeps you from reaching your goals, you may want to read this article I wrote on Ways to stay Motivated!
If you are taking steps everyday to better yourself and your health you should be proud of yourself and celebrate those small victories! You have the rest of your life to reach a seemingly magical number. Sit down, buckle up and enjoy the ride, it gets bumpy from time-to-time but we get back on track and keep going!
