Hey guys and gals!
As we all know working out is 1/3 of the battle when living a healthy life. I say 1/3 because I think that in order to live a balanced lifestyle you need 3 things, a balanced healthy diet, exercise and fun! If one of those are missing from your life then there is an imbalance somewhere, if you are trying to live a healthy lifestyle, in my opinion anyway. I know that working out can be a challenge for a lot of people, a task for some and a job for others but it can also be fun and entertaining. If you change your mindset you’ll change your outlook on the whole thing!
I decided that I’m going to periodically share workout tips with you. I think that it will be helpful and beneficial for you and might help you through your fitness journey – that is my goal after all!
1. Can going barefoot be beneficial?
Do you hate wearing shoes? You love to be bare feet whenever possible? I bet you didn’t know that walking bare feet can lead to better blood circulation, happier mood, stronger bones and even better posture. Further more walking bare feet increases skin health, reduces foot calluses and builds arch strength. Going barefoot can even reduce foot odor and who doesn’t love that!
2. Sweat = fat burning right? Wrong!
People have a tendency to think that if they are sweating they are burning fat, that is not always the case. Take for example, sitting in a sauna you will be sweating but you will not be burning fat. The best way to burn fat is though heart rate. So running on the treadmill will increase heart rate which will in turn burn fat. High intensity workouts mean increased heart rate which results in more fat burn.
3. Thumbs up for interval training!
To burn fat effectively it is better to do interval training whether than exercising at a steady rate. Try doing intervals by walking, running or skipping. Your body also responds well to a mix up! When you exercise at a steady pace all the time you body gets comfortable and may not respond as well as if you mix it up, our bodies are smarter than we think! HIIT workouts are all the rage these days and for good reason!
4. Take celebrity fitness advice with a grain of salt
One of the biggest mistake people make when trying to become healthier is believing everything people say about celebrities. Many celebrities follow very strict calorie-restrictive diets and workout schedules, many celebrities workout 4-6 times a week for 90 minutes or more each time. They don’t just do pilates once a week. You should never compare yourself to a movie star, they are just that movie stars, it is their jobs to stay very thin. Also, magazine editors can make up whatever they like about the celebrity, you have to remember that it is not the celebrity writing the stories that you read.
5. I have no time is not an excuse.
I often hear people saying, I can’t workout today because I don’t have time. The issue here is that for some reason people think that they need to spend hours at the gym in order to get a workout. This couldn’t be more false. Time should never be an issue when being and staying fit. When it comes to exercise its quality not quantity that matters. Everyone should get at least 20 minutes of physical activity a day.
6. Working out doesn’t have to be boring
Workouts can be fun, heck they should be fun! How long are you going to stick to something if you dread it? I believe that it’s important to enjoy your workout. Find what it is that you like doing. There are many ways to achieve your desired fitness level. There is not a set path for everyone. I rarely do the same workout twice because I like to keep it fun, which also keeps me motivated. I have a list of exercises that I like and I alternate with each workout!
